Hakuba Snow Report – PM

Hakuba was greeted with a light cover of fresh snow this morning with continuing sprinkles throughout the day. Made just for a nice little bit of carving as can be seen here in Tsugaike (thanks to Snow Navi).

Temperature: Top of mountain -4.1°C / Presently 0°C at Hakuba Station
Southeast wind, 8.6m/s
New Snow Last 8hrs: Top 6cm/Base 4cm
Weather today: Sporadic light snow and mostly cloudy
Tomorrow’s forecast: Pretty much same as today!

Our Hakuba video today shows activity up on Hakuba Yarigatake yesterday.

Hakuba Snow Report: 7th January, 2012

Can you believe it? There was so much snow they closed Cortina for awhile but it was open again yesterday after more than half a metre of freshies on top. The sun came out for a while and made it a pretty perfect time to be out in Hakuba. There was another 20cm or so of snow last night so the Baron von Dumphausen is making up for some lost time in Hakuba.

The weather is quite cold and generally clear. Not much snow predicted for the next day or two. As of this afternoon official reported base depths in Hakuba resorts were largely left unchanged:

Hakuba 47 196cm
Cortina 260cm
Happo-one 140cm
Tsugaike 210cm
Goryu 215cm
Iwatake 125cm
Norikura 175cm

This is a long weekend in Japan (holiday on Monday) so the slopes are reasonably busy. Still lots of powder stashes to be found on the sides of runs.

Things are looking up here in Hakuba. A good dump of snow early yesterday followed by a brilliant bluebird day. This morning is quite foggy. Good visibility down low but murky up higher. Should clear later on hopefully. Current temperature -2 with a top expected of 1.
