Hakuba Village in Nagano, Japan is one of Japan's most popular ski areas and host of the 1998 Olympic Downhill. Hakuba Village itself consists of several main ski areas and these are broken into sub-areas. At the southern end of the Hakuba Valley are the resorts of Goryū, Hakuba 47, Sun Alpina, Yanaba, Minekata and the Olympic ski resort Happōone (pronounced Happ-o-ney). To the north are the resorts of Iwatake, Tsugaike Kogen, Norikura, and Cortina. Following are listed are many of the different types and styles of Hakuba ski and self-contained accommodation. Hakuba is the perfect destination for skiers on a budget.There are numerous Hakuba budget accommodation and Hakuba backpacker hostel options to be found. Some providers such as K's House Hakuba Alps (Map) and Hakuba Alps Backpackers (Map) are more traditional backpacker style. Monkey Rider Hakuba (Map) and B&B Snowbeds Backpackers Hakuba (Map) provide some more upmarket accommodation but still offer affordable tariffs. Hakuba Powder Lodge (Map soon) is a popular place to stay in Hakuba that offers ski lodge accommodation at a hostel price. Lodge Tabi-Tabi (Map) is unlike any other accommodation in Hakuba, combining the chilled out atmosphere of a Southeast Asian guesthouse with a traditional Japanese ryokan experience. Mt Hakuba Backpackers Hostel (Map) is for the partiers, being in a great location in Echoland within a short stumble to entertainment options and the Hakuba shuttle as is Villa Rengtei (Map). Full Hakuba Self-contained Accommodation List - condominiums and cabins

With only a short walk to Happo-one Ski Resort, Gakuto Villas (see map) offers a fully equipped kitchen, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi in their modern self-contained accommodation. Phoenix Wing Cottages (see map) has features private terraces and fire place in their stylish Finnish-made resort cottages. The American-style guest houses rented by Kashibesso Hakuba Royal Cottages (see map) in Goryu contain two bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen. The Ridge Hotel and Apartments (see map) offers a bar/pub, restaurant and kids club onsite with apartments featuring free wi-fi, tv, kitchenette and balcony.

Newly listed Hakuba self-catering accommodation includes the ski-in, ski-out Hakuba Holiday House and Apartments - located right on the slopes of Hakuba Happo as well as Hakuba Bamboo Creek Log Cottage in a quiet setting close to Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park and Hakuba Happoone Resort.

Canadian Village (see map) gives guests the chance to rent by the room only whilst the popular Brownie Log House Rentals (see map) can accommodate up to eight people comfortably. Situated in a quiet forest Condo Hakuba Excel (see map) provides Western-style condominiums whilst Hakuba Rental Cabin Fushya (see map) is a fantastically located holiday rental cabin situated right on the ski slopes of Hakuba Goryu. Hakuba Pension, Ski Lodges and B&B

Hakuba Village offers dozens of pensions, ski lodges, villas and B&B. These range from those with the most basic of facilties to luxurious, from Japanese style to faux-European. So there will always be a number of accommodation options to suit both your style and budget.

Very popular with foreign skiers is Hakuba Pension Meteor a.k.a. Lodge Meteor which is a long standing local Hakuba pension, owned by a local family for two generations. Also popular is the new Snowlines Lodge close to Happo-One and Grove Inn Skala featuring a cosy lounge with a library, a bar and a wood-burning stove. Looking to get right on the slopes? Alupu Lodge is well located right on the base of the Hakuba ski slopes, Penke Panke Lodge is conveniently located next to the Sakka High speed quad at Happoone, whilst Pension Wind Jacket is only 250 metres from the Happo One ski lift as well the Hakuba night life. The Lab is a large ski lodge located within 500 metres of the Happo-One lifts and Land Haus Dancru Netz has the the free Hakuba shuttle almost at the front door. Lodge Karunaju (aka Kalunajyu Pension) is a cosy lodge that offers free parking, free Wi-Fi access and a 24-hour kashikiri (bath for private use). Pension and Bar Sidehill is somewhat similar, featuring a cosy lounge with a wood-burning stove, a 24-hour hot tub and an organic restaurant. Hakuba Ryokan, Japanese-style Inns And Traditional-style Accommodation list - click here

Imagine skiing deep Japanese powder snow then coming 'home' to rich cultural experience along with a long soaking hotspring. Welcome to Hakuba with the many traditional style inns ready to greet you. Some have been around for many years, such as Hakuba Gakuenso (see map) - in business for more than seventy years. Some are modern and traditional, such as Shirouma-so Ryokan (see map) - a modern Japanese ryokan that combines traditional Japanese architecture with a modern Japanese style. Marukin Ryokan (see map) is a Japanese-style in that has been remodelled but retains it's nostalgic atmosphere of previous times. Guests staying at the Hakuba Kappou Ryokan Minamiya (see map) relax after a long day in their natural outdoors onsen. Those who would like to be very close to the slopes may want to consider Gensennoyado Maruishi Inn (see map) or Hosonokan Ryokan (see map).
